John Spens of Durham – 1600-1690

John Spens of Durham appealed to the English Privy Council on 23 October 1690. He was by then over 90 years of age. He had served the Dutch for 20 years and the King of Sweden for 10 years. He was seeking the almsman’s place at Durham Cathedral.
